iNews / Kenya's signals, practical responses

What Kenya is discussing.
What we can do next.

An agentic AI initiative that follows public conversations, checks the evidence and develops practical solution briefs for research, community action and partnership.

Signals & solution opportunities

Curated launch briefs · AI updates awaiting connection
Updated

Public reporting and published research. Social-platform feeds are not connected; these signals are not a ranking of Kenya's trending hashtags.

Technology & work

Digital work pathways

Reporting from Kakuma describes uncertain pay and fewer opportunities for refugee digital workers.

The need to investigate

A practical route from introductory digital skills to clearly scoped, paid project work.

Explore the proposed solution

IPC proposal
Prototype a skills-to-project board with written deliverables, payment terms and mentor review. Begin with a small employer and learner pilot before expanding.

First pilot & measurement
Interview potential learners and employers; test three supervised project briefs. Track completion, payment clarity and participant feedback.

Evidence gap
Validate local demand, employer commitments and participant needs before choosing a location or budget.

Education & community

Safer first steps online

Kenyan education stakeholders have raised concerns about children's social-media use, while the ICT ministry has highlighted digital safety.

The need to investigate

Age-appropriate digital literacy for children, with practical support for parents and facilitators.

Explore the proposed solution

IPC proposal
Develop a Joska iHUB learning module on checking information, protecting personal details and asking a trusted adult for help. Pair device access with supervised reading and learning.

First pilot & measurement
Co-design two sessions with parents and facilitators. Test comprehension through age-appropriate activities and anonymous feedback.

Evidence gap
Confirm local priorities, facilitator readiness and parent consent arrangements; the reports are not a survey of Joska families.

Politics & governance

Clearer civic information

The Reuters Institute's Kenya report describes social and messaging platforms as important routes for news and political discussion, alongside concerns about rumours.

The need to investigate

Easy-to-check civic information that separates a verified fact, an open question and an opinion.

Explore the proposed solution

IPC proposal
Prototype a nonpartisan explainer library in English and Kiswahili. Each brief would link to a dated primary source, show corrections and explain practical public-service next steps.

First pilot & measurement
Choose one public-service topic with community feedback. Have a subject reviewer check a short explainer and test whether readers can locate its source.

Evidence gap
The report covers mainly English-speaking online news users and is not nationally representative. Verify current topic demand before drafting a pilot.

Solution briefs are IPC proposals for investigation and collaboration. They do not claim completed interventions, funding or verified public demand.

How the agent will work

From a public signal to a testable idea.

Connect a public signal to checked sources, a practical response and a clearly scoped pilot.

01

Identify

Find accessible Kenya-related public discussions and reporting across politics, health, business, learning and everyday life.

02

Verify

Compare sources, date the evidence and separate a public signal from a measured trend. Record gaps and coverage.

03

Develop

Propose a response, a small pilot, partners to approach and a way to measure whether the idea helps.

04

Review & act

Publish clearly labelled AI-assisted briefs. IPC reviews feasibility before outreach, funding commitments or deployment.

Coverage and AI update status

The launch briefs use linked public reporting and published research. The AI writer is built; recurring updates require connecting the IPC iNews plugin to ChatGPT. Until that connection is verified, the launch briefs remain a dated snapshot.

Direct social-platform monitoring is a further integration: approved APIs or feeds are needed for X, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube coverage. Private groups and accounts are outside this workflow. No platform-wide trend ranking or engagement totals are claimed.

Political topics focus on nonpartisan civic information and practical public needs. Sources establish the signal; the proposed solution is IPC's analysis and must be tested.
